The Head of Markets -Americas is responsible for the leadership & management of the Markets Americas front office. They should also provide direction to support areas to ensure consistent understanding of 'Markets' strategy front-to-back. The scope of the role covers all staff across the HSBC network that work for, and are aligned to the front office for the Markets-Americas business.. The seven core components of this role are:. 1. Strategy & Clients. The Head of Markets-Americas must have the ability to translate the Group strategy and vision into practical delivery and execution for the Markets Americas business.. The leadership and delivery capability also extends into GBM wide initiatives that are requested by the Head of GB&M- Americas. This requires cross-GBM knowledge and collaboration across HSBC.. Influence business strategy for Markets Americas and implement through driving achievement across the Americas against targets for revenue generation, product alignment, customer satisfaction and cost containment, whilst meeting the Group conduct outcomes and respecting the risk appetite of individual entities.. The role is client and market facing. As such it requires the role holder to be recognised as an industry leader, who provides valuable market insights to both internal and external stake holders. Externally, this will be used by HSBC media communications and for senior client meetings. As such participation in industry groups and conferences is required.. Deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets.. Provide clients with a fit for purpose, relevant and commercial Global Markets proposition and product offering that utilises HSBC's global footprint and local knowledge with particular focus on emerging markets and financing led activities in strategically relevant Global Banking and Markets, marketplaces.. The role is responsible for delivering sustainable and profitable growth to the Group on a year on year basis. This needs to be delivered within the constraints of the other targets such as RWA's, Cost Income ratios, Entity level balance sheet usage, Headcount targets, Investment budgets and appropriate management of financial and non-financial risks.. 3. Leadership & Teamwork. Develop and communicate a powerful and compelling vision that inspires and engages people with HSBC Values and goals as the basis of an inclusive, high performance, customer-centered culture. Lead, develop and motivate the leadership team to attract, retain and develop the capacity and capability and talent to provide for succession, and ensure delivery of business objectives.. Collaboration. Understanding of, and engaging with the four HSBC client groups (Commercial Bank, Retail Bank & Wealth Management, Global Private Bank and Global Banking & Markets) and their respective Product teams (Payments and Cash Management, HSBC Custody Services and Global Trade Finance Receivables) is critical to the success of the role. Close collaboration with these teams is required to unlock synergies and grow the overall revenues of the Group.. 5. Global Standards, Conduct , Risks, Controls and Regulations. Global Standards is a core element of the Group strategy to prevent financial crime (e.g. Anti-Money Laundering and Sanctions Controls). As such the standards and ethos needs to be embedded in all current and new business solutions.. Lead the pursuit of the highest conduct standards across every aspect of our business. Risk and controls: the role requires a thorough understanding of the front to back control environment and the role needs to ensure the leadership tone and operational processes uphold the highest standards of front office supervisory standards across the global team. As part of discharging this responsibility the role as 'Risk Owner' is supported in the first line of defence by specific 'Control Owners' (e.g. Risk, Finance, Operations and Compliance), Business Risk and Control Management and Business Management. Important to this role - is that it is forward looking in approach and ensures adequate training it provided.. Regulation: knowledge of the regulatory and conduct landscape is important to ensure compliance within the team, to challenge others and to adapt the operating model to ensure client needs and HSBC's reputation is balanced.. 6. Streamlining. Ensure an efficient, high capacity risk management infrastructure that meets internal control standards and highlights areas where improvement is required.. Being an effective sponsor to drive the Change agenda is fundamental to the role. The aim is to ensure investment ('Change the Bank') funds are maximised and the business is transformed to a globally standardised platform for electronic and voice trading, and risk management.. 7. People. As a leadership role there is a requirement for strong management and communication skills to provide inspiration and direction for the team across the Americas. This will require travel to ensure relationships and personnel assessments are current. It will also require the ability to attract and retain diverse talent from the global talent pool.. This role is highly impacted by external market conditions, with a fast changing environment.. External regulators will place greater scrutiny on the business itself, how it is executed and how staff are remunerated and as such this places even greater management accountability and responsibility on the incumbent.. Key requirements for the role:. At least 10 years' experience in Investment Banking.. FINRA Series 24, 63 and 7 licenses (and any other licenses or proficiency standards that may be required). Strong risk management skills and a good understanding of sales and technology.. Has a strong understanding of Controls, Conduct and Operational Risk.. Able to lead and influence senior stakeholder groups to achieve desired outcome. Able to drive change and be an effective sponsor that can support, follow up and challenge.. Communicates effectively to update senior management and inspire the team.. Understands market developments, business and client needs pre and post trade.. Solutions oriented, with a strong sense of ownership and problem solving skills.. Flexible with good time management; can carry out a number of different tasks concurrently..
